London start-up to launch new market for Bitcoin

 

London-based Coinfloor is setting up an over-the-counter market for Bitcoin.

 

Mark Lamb, Coinfloor’s chief executive, said: “We’re seeing a lot of demand… Most of the Bitcoin liquidity is happening off books – it’s a similar problem to the equities market, where you see a lot of these orders happening on dark pools.”

@segeln: Interessant, fjvbit hatte ja mal die Idee, dass irgendwann der weltweite Ölhandel mit Bitcoins abgewickelt werden könnte.

Despite numerous exchange closures and regulatory uncertainty surrounding the supposed April 15th ban on Bitcoin, China’s first bitcoin ATM was installed today. [CNBC] China’s largest exchange, BTC China, is still operational and has yet to receive any notice from the PBOC regarding the rumored April 15th deadline to close their corporate bank account. Bitcoin miners are on a global hunt for cheap electricity, setting up remotely-operated data centers in Iceland, the Austrian Alps, or small towns in Washington state and North Dakota. [bloomberg]

The Federal Elections Commission is about to decide how it will regulate Bitcoin donations in political campaigns. Similar to the strict rules regarding cash contributions, the likely ruling will force candidates to liquidate their Bitcoin funds into dollars within 10 days of receiving them. The FEC will make a final ruling on April 23rd. [FEC]

 

The attorney general of Texas, Greg Abbott, announced he will be accepting Bitcoin donations for his upcoming gubernatorial campaign. Abbott said, "The spirit of Bitcoin embodies the free market principles that make Texas a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship." [Dallas Morning News]

 

The latest theory to hit the newswire on who invented Bitcoin comes from "forensic linguists" who claim a former George Washington University law professor named Nick Szabo created the technology. Their evidence is based on comparing grammatical idiosyncrasies in the original paper on Bitcoin with Szabo's writing. [CBS News]
